Who we are?

Welcome to GirlTech Africa, a groundbreaking initiative brought to life by the #1BillionProject in collaboration with sister organizations, driven by a shared vision of empowering young girls through technology. Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide girls aged 10 to 16 years with early exposure to technology, computer coding, hardware repairs, and computer networking skills over a transformative journey.

Our Mission and Objectives

At GirlTech Africa, we are passionate about bridging the gender gap in the technology industry. Our mission is guided by the following objectives:

1. Equipping Girls with Essential Technology Skills and Knowledge: We believe in empowering girls with the tools they need to navigate the digital world effectively.

2. Fostering Interest and Confidence: We aim to instill in girls the interest and confidence needed to pursue tech-related careers, breaking down stereotypes and barriers that often deter them.

3. Bridging the Gender Gap: We are committed to reducing the gender disparity in the tech industry by creating opportunities for girls to thrive in this field.

4. Building a Supportive Ecosystem: We understand the importance of partnerships and collaborations in achieving our mission. Together, we create a supportive ecosystem that nurtures girls’ growth and success.

Our Journey and Approach

Our journey with each cohort of girls spans 6 months, during which we provide a nurturing environment for their growth and development. We cater to a diverse group of girls aged 10 to 16 years, ensuring that technology is accessible to all.

Key Activities That Define Us

Tech Curriculum: We develop and deliver a customized tech curriculum that covers computer coding, hardware repairs, networking, and related topics.

Training and Workshops: Our regular tech classes, coding clubs, and workshops provide hands-on experience, allowing girls to apply what they’ve learned.

Mentorship: Each participant is paired with a female tech mentor who offers guidance and support throughout the program, serving as role models and champions.

Awareness Campaigns: We launch awareness campaigns to promote the importance of girls in tech, advocating for change in perceptions and attitudes.

Community Engagement: Our engagement with parents and communities is crucial in garnering support for girls’ participation in tech.
